Which would be higher quality in terms of capture, storage and display: 540TVL, 640x480 or 480TVL, 720x480? What does one gain or lose between the two set-ups?

Question:

Which would be higher quality in terms of capture, storage and display: 540TVL, 640x480 or 480TVL, 720x480? What does one gain or lose between the two set-ups?

I read the CCTV Resolution article but am unsure, if given the option, if the priority should be number of pixels or horizontal resolution. Thank you for your time and expertise. Scott

Answer:

It can always depend on all the outside factors like field of view, lighting, etc. In general its a good idea to get the highest resolution camera that you can. Then you can adjust record image as needed.

In the example that you give it will most likely not make that much difference in the overall quality of the recorded images.

The differences you note are pretty minor in the full scheme of things.
