what are effective pixels in security cameras

Question:

Hi sir, Could you please tell me how do we get 540 TVL when you multiply 768 and 494

Effective pixels = 768 (Horizontal) X 494 (Vertical) Horizontal resolution = 540 TV lines.

Answer:

The math is a little more complicated than just multiplying the effective pixels in order to achieve the actual TVL (TV Lines) of resolution.

I won't go into the math because it really doesn't matter. You can evaluate any security camera by knowing what resolution it is.

I have a long article about resolutions and how it relates to Capture, Displaying and Storing. Each is a little bit different.

You can read it here. CCTV Resolution
