replace IR night vision outdoor security cameras that dont have that IR haze

Question:
I am looking to replace 2 out door cameras. They are IR for night vision, but I want to make sure we donot have the same issue. The cameras have a great, clear color picture during the day, BUT at night it has a haze to it. You cannot see anything clear and NO the lighting outside the house has not changed from first install. The cameras are about 5 years old. What is causing the haze and what cameras for you recommend?
Answer:Typically what I see in these IR cameras is that the IR LEDs themselves are so close to the lens that the reflection of the lens cover bounces back the IR light on the lens and it causes that haze that you see.
There should be a rubber shield that protects the lens from getting any reflection back from the camera lens cover in order to prevent that.
Also it is not a bad idea to go with a little bit nicer camera. Sounds like it is a good time for an upgrade anyway.
Sincerely,
Peter Brissette
