Combining Security Systems

Question:

I have an old Samsung security system with 8 cameras. The system works on CAT-5 cable. One camera is broken and the old vhs recorder is also broken.

I have a good monitor, a new dvr (LTD 2316ME DVR)and one Sony security camera and its power source.

Can I combine these into one system? Can I combine them without having to change the CAT-5 cable to the new Sony camera (the CAT-5 is within the walls)? I have heard of bayluns. Would they solve my problem?

To make things more complicated, "I only have Clear" which is a wireless internet provider that does not give out static IP's. I want to be able to monitor the cameras over the internet.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

Answer:

Yes you can connect to the new system. Baluns would be the way to do that.

Read more about it on the CCTV Connectivity Page.

Most DVRs will allow you to use a dynamic IP address. The main challenge you will have is setting up your port forwarding through your router.

Read more about that at How to setup Port Forwarding on a CCTV DVR.

Hope that helps!
