Aspherical Lens



An aspherical lens is a lens with a non spherical shape so that it refracts the light passing through it to either lower the lens aperture so that it passes more light or decreases barrel distortion on wide angle lenses.

"Normal" Spherical lenses are subject to aberration and therefore cannot concentrate all the light into one point. Aspherical lenses, however, offer excellent aberration correction performance, providing superior resolution performance, even with compact optics composed of a small number of elements.

An aspherical lens is designed to improve a black and white or color security camera's low light performance by up to 100% compared to conventional lenses. They are typically used to enhance sensitivity in indoor or outdoor environments with marginal lighting.

May come in fixed focal lenghths fixed focal lengths in some cases but typically will be a varifocal lens with 3-8mm and 5-50mm focal lengths among several others.
